Wikipedia's Simple English

I just learned today that you can "translate" Wikipedia articles into Simple English if the normal articles are too difficult to understand.

The opening line of the Wikipedia article on Liberalism in Standard English:
Liberalism (from the Latin liberalis) is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality.
The opening line of the Wikipedia article on Liberalism in Simple English:
Liberalism is a way of thinking about politics and government.
Definitely taking things one step at a time in the Simple English version.

I'm not quite sure yet if this is a knowledge revolution or a signal of the downfall of civilization as we know it...
