So I have a blog. It's about history. And how much I'm obsessed with England. It's not really meant for sharing, I mostly use it to keep my thoughts in order. But if you like semi-ordered thoughts, history, or England, please, be my guest!

The Civil War
I've only taken one class in American history in college, so the bulk of my knowledge on the topic comes from my high school classes. In other words, I don't really remember anything. To remedy this, I started watching Ken Burns' phenomenal documentary The Civil War, and I must say, I'm falling in love again with American history. Though I should be wary of calling any time of war fascinating, given the obvious (but too often overlooked or glorified) negative consequences, I still find the Civil War to be an overwhelmingly important and interesting time in our nation's history (as I imagine most people would).
In The Civil War, Burns uses a letter from a Union soldier to his wife to conclude the first of nine installments, and I must admit I found the letter to be quite moving; both for its emotional and personal nature but also for the language that the soldier uses to describe his commitment to the war and his country.
